Bespoke Log Cabins

We stock a huge number of different designs, most of which are perfect for our customers, and you can choose from a range of log cabins in different sizes: small log cabins are perfect for garden rooms or storage purposes whereas larger log cabins are ideal if you need extra living space or you want to build a home office in the garden. But what happens if you don’t see a design you like, or you find a suitable log cabin but it needs a little something extra?

Bespoke log cabins are the answer for anyone who wants to create their own design. Ordering a bespoke log cabin means you can have whatever features you want in the completed design, so if you have your heart set on a clock house log cabin with double doors on three sides, plus a decking area and covered inset porch for a BBQ, no problem – it can be done.

How to Create Your Perfect Log Cabin

It is always worth looking at existing designs for inspiration first. Often an existing log cabin design is close enough to what you want and if that’s the case, it will obviously be cheaper. However, if you see a great design, but you maybe want an extra window or two, that won’t be a problem. But if you don’t see anything that piques your interest, let’s start from scratch.

Size

Size matters of course, so before you begin, it is sensible to think about how big you need the log cabin to be. For the most part, this will depend on how you intend on using your log cabin. For example, if it is to be an occasional summer house, you might not need a lot of room, but if you are hoping to work in there, a bit more space to stretch out will be desirable. Our bespoke log cabins tend to be on the larger size, so the only limitation is how much you can afford to spend.

Wall Thickness

Wall thickness is linked to usage. The more use your log cabin gets, the thicker the walls need to be. Log cabins with thin walls – 19-28mm – are fine for occasional use, but they will be a bit cold in winter. Mid range log thickness should be fine from spring through to autumn, but if you want a log cabin you can use all year round, go for walls that are 44-70mm thick. We can also build bespoke log cabins with double skin walls for extra insulation.

Windows

Single glazed windows might suit if you are only looking at occasional use, but if your log cabin is likely to be used regularly, it is a good idea to go for double glazed windows, as these offer better insulation and are more secure.

The more windows you have, the more light there will be. Think about how you intend on using the log cabin and where it will be built. Windows are best located if you have something to look at, so try to avoid fitting a window where there is a wall or fence.

Doors

How many doors do you need? A single or double set of doors may suit, but if you want to use the log cabin for entertaining, or as a summer house, consider adding extra doors on the sides, so you can open up the cabin and let fresh air and light in. If you see a great design that you love, but you think it would benefit from an extra door, that isn’t a problem – we can easily incorporate an extra door into the design.

Check Your Design

If you are having a bespoke log cabin built, it is very important to check the design before you sign it off. Look at the design and make sure every feature is included, and if there are any mistakes, or you decide to add something else, let us know. We won’t begin manufacturing your new log cabin until you are 100% happy with the design.

It is very easy to create a bespoke log cabin, but if you need any help with the design process, we are always happy to help out with useful suggestions, so give us a call today.
